Leading ladies in film

To escape the 40-degree heat yesterday I took myself to the Waterfront to watch a movie. I’ve been trying to see as many Oscar nominated movies as possible before the Oscars were announced and having seen the preview of The Blind Side last week (which by the way is a definite must see, best actress Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock was unbelievable) I went to see Precious. It’s an adaptation of the novel Push by Sapphire and is based upon the young women the author encountered when she worked as a literacy teacher in Harlem and the Bronx for seven years. I knew it was going to be a difficult one to watch and it was. Best supporting actress Academy Award winner Mo’Nonique played the role of a an abusive and layabout mother to Precious (Gabourey Sidibe) so convincingly, you could have heard a pin drop in the movie house so enraptured was the audience. It’s definitely deserving of all the attention and awards it’s been receiving.
