Need To Stay: Knorhoek Wine Estate
Knorhoek Wine Estate
We all need to escape bustling city life at some point or another. Just 50km out of Cape Town, tucked away in Stellenbosch at the foothills of the Simonsberg mountain lies Knorhoek Wine Estate – a tranquil haven offering exquisite views, infinite greenery and total relaxation. Its enchanting setting makes Knorhoek a popular venue for weddings, conferences and other functions, but also for a peaceful, lazy weekend getaway with loved ones, friends or family. We drove through on a Saturday afternoon and were welcomed by the comforting neigh of gorgeous chestnut horses enjoying the sunshine, and we went straight to the tasting room, settled beneath a large oak tree, and indulged in some of Knorhoek’s finest.
The three-star Knorhoek Guesthouse across the way was our home for the night, and it offers nothing short of modern comfort mixed with old-world charm. From our balcony we scanned the beauty before us – lush fields, mountains, birdlife… All the rooms boast a warm, gentle décor and are fully equipped with TVs, a phone, a safe, coffee and tea trays, a hair dryer, en suite shower and/or bath.
In summer one can laze by the rock pool. In the colder month, cosy down in the lounge by the fire with a glass of red, or enjoy a meal at the fabulous Towerbosch Restaurant.
It was such a wonderful weekend away. We came back feeling refreshed, replenished and ready to take on a new week.
