Girl a la mode

Meet Charlie May, fashion designer

HER BLOG: GIRLALAMODE.CO.UK

‘Girl a la Mode has a keen focus on design with a mixture of my inspirations and outfits thrown in.’

WHY A BLOG?

‘I started this blog in university when I felt there weren’t any blogs with such a focus on fashion design itself.’

FUTURE OF YOUR BLOG?

‘I hope that when I’m recognized globally for my fashion label, Charlie May, people will be able to come and get a more intimate look and insight into how I work; I don’t think there are any designers successfully doing that right now.’

BLOGS YOU LOVE?

‘Fashion Sphere (Fashionsphere.freshnet.se), Stop it Right Now (Stopitrightnow.blogspot.com) and Love Aesthetics (Love-aesthetics.blogspot.com). These three girls have the best style on the internet and are totally unique; if you haven’t heard of them, I can guarantee that they’ll be your new favourites.’

 FAVOURITE DESTINATION?

‘Antwerp in Belgium is my favourite city in the world not just because it houses two of my favourite designers (Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann) but because of the intimacy, the architecture and the nightlife. My other favourites are Devon in southwest England, for the beautiful countryside, and then somewhere hot like the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. I have been there once and have been dying to go back ever since.’

WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD?

‘My favourite album at the moment is Black Sands by Bonobo – something relaxing after the hectic Fashion Week!’

TOP SHOPS?

‘I’m a big on-line shopper so I’d say eBay and The Outnet for the best discounts, and my favourite London store would have to be Dover Street Market, for the best range of emerging designers.’

LATEST OBSESSION?

‘I’m totally obsessed with the new TV series Homeland. I could watch it back-to-back, it’s so gripping.’

 NOBODY KNOWS THAT…

‘I’m happiest when I’m in the sea. I grew up on the coast – I love to dive off coral reefs or in undersea caves.’

I WOULD GIVE UP A MONTH’S SALARY…

‘For the trip of a lifetime.’
