Crystal Renn battles plus size label

So Hurricane Vanessa started this debate yesterday. She comments that there is way too much media focus on women’s weight and an unhealthy set of labels that goes with the territory – plus size being the tip of the labeling iceberg.
Crystal Renn has her own issues with the terminology used for models on the size 16 scale: namely plus size versus straight ( as in straight up and down). In an an interview with the Huffington Post to promote her book ‘Hungry’ she said: ‘Let’s get rid of straight size and plus size. It’s bulls**t. Just say model. Full stop.” ( See the video interview with the Huffington Post here)
She kind of proves her point in the new Jean Paul Gaultier fall campaign along with Ping Hue and Kelly Moreira. On a comparative scale she looks like her counterparts in the shoot, just a very healthy version of herself – not too thin – not too (sorry) plus – just kinda in between. The internet is aflutter with comments questioning her weight loss , and her right to the plus size supermodel title. I suppose people are offended that she has shaved off a few kilos – she made such a radiant and outspoken poster girl for the need to fight the size zero brigade.
We are in fact running a fascinating report on the world’s size 16 models in our August edition – look out for it when it hits shelf next week (with the lovely Cameron Diaz on the cover). This is a debate that we should continue.

hello,
I’m going to avoid the temptation to get distracted Googling and finding out whether Crystal Renn is really her (lovely) name.
In the meantime – your site is a tad short on contact details! Where does a feller pitch an idea for article to you guys?
Good point about the contacts: you can contact Vanessa Kindersley vanessak@assocmags.co.za with your pitch.
