On the prowl
Hello. Hello! Hello, Leonardo DiCaprio!
It might just be me, but this man is proving he is like a good wine – definitely getting better and finer with time and age:
His career has most (if not all) Hollywood actors green with envy (I mean, he is best friends with and first choice of the legendary Martin Scorsese), he is/has (who knows?!) dating Bar Refaeli and, in recent years, got his fingers in a few do-good, uplifting environmental pies.
And now, his latest projects sees him working with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for their campaign, Save Tigers Now, to save the near-extinct feline population.
Leo (how appropriate!) is currently in Asia where he is learning about and documenting the extent of the species’ devastation. He is also involved with anti-poaching patrols and helping guards who are responsible for protecting the animals from international traffickers.
Though nothing has been confirmed or mentioned, I’m hoping his findings will be made into a documentary. I’m not one of those major wildlife doccie fans, but this project sounds worth the watch – according to stats, there are only 3200 tigers left. I would love to know what happened and what is being done… don’t you think?
Anyway. What makes the project even more relevant is that 2010 happens to be the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese Calendar; so Leo and the WWF have set out to raise $20 million and hope to double the species’ population by the next Year of the Tiger in 2022.
Leo commented that ‘tigers are endangered and critical to some of the world’s most important ecosystems. Key conservation efforts can save the tiger species from extinction, protect some of the planet’s last wild habitats and help sustain the local communities surrounding them. By protecting this iconic species, we can save so much more.’
Good grief. It’s hard not to love this man!
