Fat Folklore- Diet’s Urban Legends
Hardly anyone is a stranger to the word, diet (cue dramatic music here). The infamous grapefruit in the morning followed by the hunger pangs that give you a feeling of unfortunate accomplishment, allowing you to think you’re well on your way to skinny-dom is nothing but a fallacy. In actual fact, it could hinder your chances of losing that winter weight by going into “store-fat” overdrive. Your body thinks you’re depriving it of fuel so it freaks out and saves as much energy as it can.
Carbs can be our friends. They have the lowest energy content; so don’t be afraid of low GI bread. It could save you from embarrassing colon communication at the office. Drinking litres of water- myth! Howstuffwork.com aided me in this discovery. Too much water intake could be more harmful to you than anything else. More than 2.5/3 litres a day will cause you to dilute your electrolytes, which ends up messing with the homeostasis within your body, so basically you’ll just end up screwing up all bodily functions. The same goes for any slimming products, herbal or not- just because it says it’s natural does not mean it’s any less detrimental to your system. Laxatives and diuretics are usually packed into these tablets, which as mentioned above, throws things right out of balance.
We’ve heard it all before, the healthy lifestyle changes and exercise… bla bla bla, nevertheless this is where the truth lies. Rather concentrate on being healthy and your body will do the rest.
